Concept

Water: from the single raindrop to the vastness of the oceans; from springs to seas, via streams and rivers; from tears of joy to tears of sorrow; from the kitchen to the garden...the importance, power and dynamism of water is manifested daily and all over the world.
But can these concepts be "encapsulated" in a single object? It is from this question that the Flow bottle was born.
Flow Water Bottle

Flow is a project created for an Italian company operating in the water distribution sector for Ho.Re.Ca. world.
The brief called for the design of a highly recognizable bottle that enhances water and its characteristics, easy and comfortable to hold.
The shape of the container seems to depend on the contents; the water shaping the bottle; the flow being immortalized as in a photograph.
Product

The body of the bottle consists of two elements: the inner steel container and the aluminum external one.
The lower part is sealed and covered by a non-slip rubber base, while the upper part is closed by a cap with aluminum exterior and a plastic interior and hidden gasket and threads.

Dimension and Capacity

The bottle is designed in two versions: 1.5-liter for daily use at dining table, and 750 ml for outdoor use such as the gym and office. The maximum dimensions are 33 cm in height (including cap) and 10 cm in diameter.
Colors & Materials

Flow is an object for everyday use, which wants to fit into any environment, from sporty to formal, meeting the taste of men and women, teens and adults. The color choice makes the object unisex and versatile, offering four colorations with strong character, yet discreet.
The inner tank is made of die cast brushed steel, divided from the outside by a small air chamber to allow for thermal sealing; the outer body is made of powder-coated aluminum, with an embossing finish, also useful for grip.

Identity & Naming

The result of a long design development is a bottle with a strong aesthetic impact, highly recognizable, conveying the concept of organicity, fluidity, liquid and flow. The name, Flow, is descriptive, immediate and easy to remember.
Technical aspects and Prototyping

Dozens of prototypes were made with different techniques and materials, each for each phase of evaluative analysis during design: hand-molded clay model, PLA with 3D printing, and CNC-machined polystyrene.
The prototypes were crucial for working on the bottle's capacity and aesthetic impact, but especially for the ergonomic study: Flow is in fact modeled to provide an excellent grip for both right- and left-handed people, allowing it to rest between "one wave" and another of the body.
